Deleting All My Pinterest Content + PLUG YOUR PROFILE
Let's talk social make-overs, shall we?
It’s another day, another addition of the Frolics
I’m, as always, Ellen “Jelly” McRae, the writer/solopreneur/content creator/whatever you want to call me, with the goods.
By trade, I write ‘💜 1 Lovelock Drive 💜’ and relationship articles using my experiences.
To my faithful, welcome back. I’ve missed you!
If you’re new to my blogletter, I’m pretty happy you’re here. Stay awhile, get to know me, and come with me as I stuff up life, make amazing and dumb-ass career decisions, and share my *cough cough* wisdom.
Let’s Bring You Up To Speed
I’m so desperate to give you guys an office tour. I even mentioned it in earlier stacks as a stake in my commitment. If I say it loud, I will do it.
Thank you, by the way, for keeping me accountable. You guys are the best. 😘
But I’m still waiting on one art-like piece for my bookcase to arrive, and it bugs me to show the office with this big gap in it.
I don’t love perfection; I don’t believe I can ever create or produce something perfect. There is always something you can do to make it better at some stage.
Yet this isn’t one of those perfectionist moments.
This is a gap, like I’ve left a paragraph out of an article, or forgot a photo on an Insta post. It doesn’t make sense to show off the space without it.
I’ve left angry emails with Australia Post about it, by the way. I'm not taking this lying down. Yet, if I was a betting woman right now, which I definitely am, I don’t think it will ever arrive.
Being a month late has my doubts at an all-time high.
Bye-bye Content
I’ve been doing some heavy Pinterest research recently. As you might remember I was setting some wild goals for my Pinterest, using the old two-party goal setting method I know doesn’t work for me.
In case you forgot, here is Pinterest journey so far:
Pinterest and The Frolics: Everything Has Changed (which includes more research)
Since then, I’m focusing on consistency with Pinterest, as well as the quality of my content.
In short, I want to produce the best Pins like clockwork.
Like a true creator, this insistence on creating the best content possible led me to evaluate what Pins already exist on my account. And the self-critical me decided everything on there had to go.
It wasn’t that I didn’t like the Pins.
Well, that’s not entirely true. If I loved them so much, if I thought they were brilliant, I would have left them published on my profile. But I had to love them somewhat at some stage to publish them in the first place.
They weren’t total garbage.
During my research, however, I worked out that cleaning the slate was better than keeping content that wasn’t working.
Let’s start again, with a fresh approach, and build a better foundation without all the mess around it.
Sounds stupid, right? Even saying it feels silly. I'm partly a content creator. Shouldn't I have some content?
Who Said It Best
Gees, I needed this quote.
Sometimes you have to ditch what doesn’t work, take yourself and your business back to small, to get back to big.
At least that’s what I’m telling myself as I take this plunge.
Steal My Research
Ok, here is the main research I found that justified starting again. With Pinterest user behaviour shifting from the traditional values we’ve come to know and rely on, we know the world is changing.
So I’m keeping up.
Pinterest Predicts is one of the best things a social media platform has ever offered its creator. It's straight to the point, it's meaningful and easy to make plans with.
No stupid jargon.
Easy to understand.
Insanely helpful. 👍
Here is what I read lately:
Before I dive right in, this is the link to the research: 2022 Pinterest Trend
“These rebels with a cause are rising above the endless hustle.”
This was the line that got me. This generation is telling the world what is cool and what isn’t. As a millennial trying to reach a Gen Z audience, I can’t pretend my older and wiser attitude makes me better than them.
No one is better than me. I need to learn from everyone. What they do speaks volumes.
“In 2022, Gen X is all about work-life balance.”
Yeah, this is what my whole Frolics blogletter is all about. Somehow figuring out whilst mastering this work-life balance thing.
My old content on Pinterest didn’t even touch on this idea, even though I was speaking about it. That was a dumb marketing decision by me.
I had it at my fingertips but didn't do anything with it.
I don’t even need to comment on this bit of research. This was like someone was inside my head, knowing what I was going to do before I did it.
I highly suggest going over these Pinterest predictions, even if you don’t use Pinterest. It might spark an idea, help you understand how the internet is shifting or help you decide whether Pinterest might be right for you.
Yeah, My Pinterest Is Empty
For now, my Pinterest is very empty and looks neglected and unloved. I’m ok with that for the short term.

It’s not my bread and butter, unlike if I cleared house on my Medium articles. And let's be honest, what was there wasn’t working. I would rather have a vacant profile over content that sends the wrong message.
I know some people might not agree with this approach.
It can seem counterintuitive to the idea of bucking perfection. But having an empty Pinterest is far from perfection. It can look like I’m failing, lazy, that I'm incompetent. All the above.
It’s going to take a hot minute to figure out exactly the type of content I want to include on my new revamped Pinterest. By a hot minute, I’m giving myself one month to figure it out. Any longer and I’m just wasting time.
That’s my opinion of my opportunities by the way. That’s how long I believe it should take me to work it out for me and my business. For others, a month is too short, and that is ok.
Putting my Pinterest back together is a priority. I’m going to share step by step starting in May.
Stay tuned.
